We’re thrilled to announce Murphy Anne Carter’s promotion to Program Manager, effective January 1, 2022. Murphy began working with Texas After Violence in 2020 as a project coordinator, and has been an integral part of our team ever since. She has coordinated our Sheltering Justice Project, which documents stories at the intersection of the pandemic and mass incarceration, and has created and coordinated several training and education projects, as well as panels and other public events. In addition to managing our documentation and training/education programs, beginning this year Murphy will also manage our Visions After Violence fellowships, artist and writer residencies, and Access to Treatment Initiative. Murphy’s compassion, empathy, and positive energy are deeply treasured by her colleagues and collaborators.
My time at TAVP has shown me the ways that storytelling can be a kind of a medicine, a path toward justice, and an essential form of advocacy. Every day, I am grateful to the amazing individuals who contribute their stories to our archive and for the thoughtfulness and kindness of TAVP’s team. I’m excited to start off 2022 as Program Manager, working with our new Visions After Violence Fellows and our Community Advisors, continuing to interview those who are directly impacted, and investigating the nuanced and complicated realities that exist beyond punitive systems of today.
