Archival Visions, Archival Liberation:

A Conversation with Tamara Lanier

On August 3, 2019, Shift Design and the Texas After Violence Project hosted a public conversation about archives, race, and justice. This event featured the story of Tamara Lanier, whose fight against Harvard University for images of her enslaved ancestors Renty and Delia has been covered by numerous national and international media outlets, including The New York Times, The Guardian, and Democracy Now!. The conversation was moderated by Jarrett M. Drake, a PhD student in Social Anthropology at Harvard University and one of the organizers of A People’s Archive of Police Violence in Cleveland.
